Five Excuses
by Lori Michiel | Dec 15, 2014
We can make excuses about anything, but do we want to change our behavior? Here are some excuses and solutions. Number 1 I think I'm catching a cold. Studies show that working out doesn't affect the intensity or the direction of a cold and that having one doesn't make...
There Are No Wrong Turns or Choices, Only Unexpected Results
by Lori Michiel | Nov 28, 2014
I don’t know about you, but I am having a hard time choosing what gifts to buy my friends, family trainers and clients, who live near and far. Let's start with a partial list of options: ∆ The latest fashions in scarves (I should have bought more at the L.A. gift show...

by Lori Michiel | Nov 15, 2014
Having good balance means being able to control and maintain your body's position, whether you are moving or remaining still. An intact sense of balance helps you stay vertical and... • walk without staggering • get up from a chair without falling • climb stairs...
Are Personal Trainers Leaders and Mentors?
by Lori Michiel | Nov 1, 2014
If we reach an unhealthy time in our lives, then getting out of that predicament can be a much harder task than the circumstances that led us to it. Whether the person is overweight or having a hard time coping with a newly diagnosed medical condition, many people...
ARE YOU SATISIFIED WITH HOW YOU LOOK?
by Lori Michiel | Oct 15, 2014
I guess you can answer this question any number of ways. The percentage of women aged 50-plus, who are satisfied is quite low, according to research from the Journal of Women & Aging (2013; 25[4], 287-304). The report was based on interviews from almost 1800 women...
Picture Yourself Resilient
by Lori Michiel | Oct 1, 2014
Now that I will be 60-years-old in a few weeks, I can't believe it, nor can my mother. If you follow old friends from high school on Facebook, as I do, every month another friend turns 60. Wow! Somehow with each decade, I feel differently about my age. Of course, like...
I HATE Parkinson’s Disease
by Lori Michiel | Sep 15, 2014
My first encounter with Parkinson's disease (PD) was when my dear Uncle Leon was diagnosed in 1996; he was 75-years-old. He was a prominent physician with Kaiser Permanente and our family physician, when I was growing up in New York. He was an excellent doctor, who...

You never know how or when an opportunity comes along that can transform others’ lives. In the springtime my colleague, Dorothy Fried, LCSW, CMC and a well-respected Geriatric Care Manager (GCM) in the healthcare community contacted me. A professional Geriatric Care...
Exercise and Atrial Fibrillation
by Lori Michiel | Aug 15, 2014
With each passing year, I encounter more and more seniors with a condition called Atrial Fibrillation (A-Fib). In fact, just this month I have two new clients: an 87-year-old male and a 76-year-old female, who suffer from A-Fib. I monitor their blood pressure before,...
“Wherever you are, be there.”
by Lori Michiel | Aug 1, 2014
A guest Blog by Kristen.M : Sitting in a breakfast nook with my client, Dan, who suffers from dementia, I couldn't get this old piece of motivational wisdom out of my head. "Wherever you are . . ." Dan is in his 70s. His memory stirs like a pile of dust when asked to...

Lori and her team provide personal training for my elderly mother who has Alzheimer's and dementia, as part of her overall care. They customized a program addressing her needs, including balance and mobility. She really likes her two trainers and looks forward to her sessions. I highly recommend Lori Michiel Fitness!

Now I can walk better. Also before I was going up the stairs one step at the time. Now I can go up and down by holding from both rails without a problem. I can go up 120 steps and more.
I continue doing all the exercises and they have given me more strength in all my body.
There aren't any words to say how much Lori and her trainer, therapist changed my life forever. Until today, I do the exercises they taught me.
I will thank them forever.
They changed my life. They can change your life too.

Sam Strain – Trainer
Customer care is of the utmost concern to her. She is very knowledgeable about personal training and the workings of the functional human body from a bio-mechanical point of view. She is compassionate about all her clients as they all get her personal touch.
I would feel most comfortable recommending her to anyone that is in need of her services.
Respectfully,

After my mom’s strokes, we knew we needed to help her become active and improve her balance. She didn’t have a good habit of any exercise and none of the local senior classes were appropriate for her.
I’m so glad we called Lori Michiel Fitness. Lori came to the house, met with my mom, listened to her needs, took a careful medical history and matched her with a trainer. He is a wonderful trainer who comes to the house three times a week to help support mom’s recovery. The trainer really understands senior fitness. He gives the whole family peace of mind that we are doing what we can to prevent another fall and keep mom active. Lori checks in with us regularly to make sure the therapy continues to be appropriate for mom. We’re very grateful to her.
