The aging population needs and wants more skilled personal trainers. This population craves the personalized attention and helpful strategies that most trainers ignore due to lack of education…
The Pew Research Center notes roughly 10,000 Baby Boomers will turn 65 every day through 2030. Competition among trainers has never been more challenging, especially trainers new to the fitness industry who want to work with the senior community providing group or individual training. It’s not enough to simply offer fun sessions – that is the expectation. In order to maintain a competitive edge, trainers need more specific methods geared toward this population. Do you have experience working with Parkinson’s disease, stroke patients or Alzheimer’s disease? Today’s clients are setting the bar higher and expect quality programs and activities for fitness. Trainers can learn these techniques and stay current within their practice.
Older adults and seniors are the fastest growing segment of the population and are invested in their overall health, a high quality of life and engaging with their peers. However, they are not entirely immune to the aging process. Therefore, when they must modify their activity because of chronic condition, disease or injury, they seek a fun, caring and competent individual who understands their unique needs and will be their personal cheerleader for a custom exercise program.
The Lori Method™
Through specialized workshops, both new and experienced trainers learn safety methods and how to handle age-related conditions such as muscular-skeletal issues, movement disorders (such as Parkinson’s disease and MS), dementia, stroke, osteoporosis, arthritis and other ailments affecting seniors in a physical fitness curriculum. Trainers who work for Lori Michiel Fitness will also receive hands-on instruction.
Those trained in The Lori Method™ will help senior clients become more physically active with improved endurance, less pain and a greater sense of well-being.
Lori has worked with this population for more than three decades. With evidence-based material and hands-on experience, she has developed proven strategies that will bring new value to trainers’ skills. Stay tuned to our Trainer Workshops page for announcements about a new class, or send us an email to let us know you’re interested.

Lori's principles of dynamic stretching revolutionized the way I approach stretching. I've seen a great increase in flexibility and have even built additional strength using her techniques.

Mom always says, "Dad worked out with his trainer a week before he passed". It was a blessing that he was in good physical shape up almost until the end and we are very grateful for that. We are so grateful for you and the wonderful trainers Dad had. We were truly blessed.

Lori and her team provide personal training for my elderly mother who has Alzheimer's and dementia, as part of her overall care. They customized a program addressing her needs, including balance and mobility. She really likes her two trainers and looks forward to her sessions. I highly recommend Lori Michiel Fitness!

She has helped him get out of his wheelchair and use his walker. My father and I are both grateful for the wonderful work she has done. But more than that she serves as a champion for my dad where he is staying. She encourages the staff to let my father use his walker more often and makes sure when she is there that all else is well.
