holiday-shoppingI don’t know about you, but I am having a hard time choosing what gifts to buy my friends, family trainers and clients, who live near and far. Let’s start with a partial list of options:

∆ The latest fashions in scarves (I should have bought more at the L.A. gift show last season)
∆ Homemade cookies and other delights (too tempting for me to eat them myself)
∆ Colognes, perfume or hand lotions (one step into The Body Shop or Bath and Body Works can make you scream, or give you a headache, or both)
∆ Picture frames (re-gifting is a possibility)
∆ Calendars (did that in October for 2015 – want one?)
∆ Gift certificates for a massage, a personal trainer (now we’re talking), tech doodads, music, Trader Joe’s, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Home Goods (my personal favorite), etc.
∆ Charities for the young, for the old, for diseases that plague us here or elsewhere in the world. (Again, how to choose? One way is on December 2, a special day for giving. People all over the world will come together on Giving Tuesday for one purpose: to give and celebrate generosity.
∆ Health and fitness equipment (ask me, I am a pro at this and can tell you what to consider and what fads to ignore)

Whichever way you go, stay within your budget; unless you are rich and having a budget doesn’t matter. There will always be temptations. If you saw the film “Diary of Anne Frank”, Anne was imaginative. She gave simple gifts made out of scraps and paper to her family and their house guests. Even Moochy, Peder’s cat, received a gift … a ball of yarn to play with. All the gifts were thoughtful and unexpected, given the circumstances.

Consider spending some extra time with a friend in need or a loved one; do the unexpected!
Have a healthy holiday season; watch the extra goodies that are so tempting; take a breath; keep moving and enjoy!
