You’ve heard the terms. Each is a bit different than the other. Clumsy refers to lack of coordination or dexterity; klutz refers to someone who is habitually accident prone. How old were you when you took off the training wheels of your bicycle and learned to ride...

Bringing New Things Into Your Life
by Lori Michiel | Aug 1, 2023
Michael J. Fox inspires us all. A recent Neurology Today article said, “His attitude is to bring new things into his life - writing, golf - to fill in for what he’s lost along the way. And these things don’t take energy. They generate it.” Sometimes when we are in...

National Safety Month – Back to Basics
by Lori Michiel | Jun 1, 2023
Senior fitness research supports a specific exercise program for older adults and seniors. It has been almost 17 years since I became a fitness trainer. When I first began my practice, I was concerned that my clients would find out I was a rookie. So there would be no...

Osteoporosis is not only a women’s issue. Men are also at risk.
by Lori Michiel | May 1, 2023
While it is more common in females, by age 65 or 70, men are losing bone mass at the same rate as women. In May we recognize Osteoporosis Awareness & Prevention Month. Coming up, Men’s Health Month is in June. It takes more than milk to keep bones strong. Breaking...

What Lengths Would You Go to Prevent the Aging Symptoms That Cause You Stress?
by Lori Michiel | Apr 1, 2023
Exercise your age away. The physiological changes in our brain are normal parts of aging, but what you might not know is how it can affect movement. My 89-year-old husband knows how lucky he is to be moving as well as he does, because he started exercising at a young...

What Brings You Peace of Mind?
by Lori Michiel | Mar 1, 2023
Your thoughts can run in your head like a broken record–or can you sit still and “hear” the quiet? Is there an activity, exercise, religious or meditation practice you do regularly to slow your mind? Or do you take medications which can have multiple side effects?...

by Lori Michiel | Feb 1, 2023
In recognition of National Heart Month, if you are not familiar with these terms, here’s a quick and easy guide. Every six months I get my blood work checked. The numbers that I watch carefully are those described below. Since some of my numbers have been creeping up,...

Do You Have Outdated Ideas About Yourself?
by Lori Michiel | Jan 1, 2023
Figuring out who we are today means sitting down and taking stock of our current strengths, weaknesses, values and preferences in life. Did you ever try to figure out why we develop certain characteristics that seem contrary to our behaviors as a youth? When we hit...

by Lori Michiel | Dec 1, 2022
We can make excuses about anything, but do we want to change our behavior? It is so easy to keep repeating what is comfortable—or to give ourselves excuses! We all do it. Here are some common excuses and solutions that will help you keep your exercise routine on track...

After my mom’s strokes, we knew we needed to help her become active and improve her balance. She didn’t have a good habit of any exercise and none of the local senior classes were appropriate for her.
I’m so glad we called Lori Michiel Fitness. Lori came to the house, met with my mom, listened to her needs, took a careful medical history and matched her with a trainer. He is a wonderful trainer who comes to the house three times a week to help support mom’s recovery. The trainer really understands senior fitness. He gives the whole family peace of mind that we are doing what we can to prevent another fall and keep mom active. Lori checks in with us regularly to make sure the therapy continues to be appropriate for mom. We’re very grateful to her.
