Aging is not for cowards. The sooner we begin to plan differently, the more likely we will remain motivated.
How do I motivate my clients? My clients are wide-ranging, including children of aging parents, those struggling with menopausal symptoms or a recent osteoporosis diagnosis, and seniors from their sixties into their nineties! When I understand a little more about their behavior and what inspired them to contact me, I’m halfway there.
What motivates us to change is driven by either fear or pleasure. Our decision to lean one way or the other makes the difference. Ask yourself, can pain, a scary medical diagnosis, another fall, or anxiety be the catalyst? What about pleasurable things? Can we envision the joy of breathing fresh air, celebrating a special event, making new friends, feeling stronger, looking better, or experiencing less pain be possible?
Along with cell phone upgrades, upgrades to computers, etc., it can be costly to ignore upgrading your body. If you aren’t sure what motivates you to do so, and you tend to fall into the negative group, the question is, can you change your prospective?
If we look at our chronological age (how many birthdays we have checked off), versus our biological age (which tells us how well our body is holding up against time), you can only change your biological age. Alter your biological age by seeking a solution to getting motivated. Do something as simple as getting up from a chair after 30 minutes. Go for a walk, or pick up your pace when you do walk; stretch those tight muscles and stiff joints. Due to more isolation because of the COVID crisis, it is imperative today to re-evaluate your approach to your health before the New Year arrives in full force.
Also remember to keep washing your hands. December is not only holiday time, but also “National Hand Washing Awareness Week”.
We have specific programs to get you started. If you’ve completed physical therapy sessions for rehab, now is the time to continue your personal rehab and ways to improve your overall health with our help.
