Derek

Derek, trainer for seniors at Lori Michiel FitnessDerek began training clients in 2004, bringing his passion for health and fitness into his clients’ lives.

One of his clients was a geriatric care doctor who began to refer his senior clients to Derek which helped shape Derek’s expertise in that age group. He customizes workouts to seniors’ specific abilities including movement coordination, rhythmic movement, balance work and seated exercises to improve their overall health and confidence.

Derek has worked with cancer survivors, those with Multiple Sclerosis, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, arthritis and heart issues. Derek even had one client who he began working with at the age of 102, training him for almost three years before he passed away, just shy of his 105th birthday.

Derek is a certified personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and the American Council on Exercise (ACE). He also earned his Corrective Exercise Specialization certification from NASM.

Treating each client’s needs with sensitivity and working around issues and limitations, Derek has been able to help clients improve their well-being and health, despite their ailments.

Mom's doing great and she really likes her trainer. She's so much more comfortable now and not scared to move - she even rode the exercycle a little in the building gym with her senior helper person the other day, so her trainer has really gotten her self-confidence back.
